Moshekwa Langa, currently working in Holland. Paintings, collages,

very modern urban theories and to whom we owe the concept of 'Arcologia':

Fifty paintings and marionettes are on show. The puppets are one
of the most original insights into the figurative culture of the
20th century exhibited in the 1920s in Rome, Paris and Berlin. These
are soft sculptures that are inspired by literature but that also
have their own stories to tell. They are made out of fabric, threads,
ribbons and various objects such as fragments of mirror, toothpicks
and buttons. The marionettes are like real personalities who must
be seen, actually touched, with one's own eyes.

of embroidery)
An exhibition that brings together the human and divine and displays
refined works that have been created especially for the Week of

painting" that is still alive and well in Seville today. The different
sections of the exhibition tell the story of the needle-workers
from Seville and show the techniques and materials used. The layout
of the exhibition and various audiovisual projections show us the
creative phases of this art and skill.

Until 22 Jan 2006: Degas. La famiglia Bellelli
(Degas. The Bellelli family)
The most famous work from Degas' youth is exhibited for the first
time at the Modern Art Gallery. The truly revolutionary aspect of
the painting is the dysfunctional non-unity of the family, the psychological
elements of the picture take centre-stage and the tension in the
family is palpable. The virtuosity of the mirror is also remarkable.
This painting contains all the power of the Impressionist movement,
showing how it shook up the aesthetic canons from within, allowing
a flood of emotion, until then censored, to enter the realm of art.
